Content Marketing and Copywriting That Actually Serves a Purpose

Content is one of those words that gets used to mean almost anything in marketing.

Blog posts, social media captions, website copy, email newsletters, white papers, webinar scripts, it all gets lumped under the same umbrella. And in a sense, that is right.

Content is the substance that runs through everything.

The problem is not a shortage of content. Most businesses are already producing some. The problem is content that has no clear purpose, no connection to a broader strategy, and no real understanding of the audience it is supposed to serve. Content for content’s sake is just noise.

I’m Ben Webb, a freelance marketing consultant and Growth Partner based in Worcestershire. I help small businesses create content that earns its place. Whether that means blog posts built around genuine search insight, website copy that actually converts, or longer-form content that supports a lead generation campaign. The type of content varies. The standard I hold it to does not.

How I Create Content

The process depends on the type of content and the goal behind it, but there are two things that are always true: the content needs to be research-led, and it needs to draw on your expertise rather than replace it.

Drawing the Expertise Out of You

One of the most common frustrations I hear from business owners is that they know their subject inside out but struggle to turn that knowledge into content. They either do not have the time to write, or they sit down to write and find that it does not come out the way it sounds in their head.

My approach to this is simple: I ask questions.

For a lot of the content I create, I will jump on a call with a client, record the conversation, and use that as the knowledge base for the content. You are the expert in your field. My job is to ask the right questions, pull out the insight, and shape it into something that works for the audience and the platform.

The result is content that genuinely reflects your expertise and voice rather than something that could have been written by anyone about anything.

Research-Led Where It Matters

For SEO-driven content in particular, the process starts with research rather than assumptions. What are your ideal clients actually searching for? What questions are they asking? What content already exists and how can we do better? Keyword research and audience insight shape the brief before a word is written, which means the content has a real chance of being found by the right people.

A counselling training provider I worked with is a good example of this in practice. Several articles created off the back of proper audience and keyword research now each attract over 1,000 visitors a month, directly contributing to course enquiries. The content was not guesswork, it was built around what their prospective students were genuinely searching for.

Content That Runs Through Everything

One of the things I have learned from working with small businesses since 2015 is that content rarely works well in isolation. The blog post that drives traffic needs to connect to a service page that converts. The email campaign needs something worth saying. The ad needs copy that matches the landing page. The website copy needs to reflect the brand and speak to the right audience.

This is why I approach content as part of the broader marketing picture rather than a standalone deliverable. When content has a clear role to play (in an SEO strategy, an email campaign, a paid advertising funnel, or a lead generation piece) it tends to perform significantly better than content created in isolation.

What I Can Help You Create

Blog Posts and Articles

Long-form blog content built around genuine search intent and your area of expertise. Written to serve both Google and real human readers, and always connected to a clear SEO or content strategy rather than published for the sake of it.

Website Copy

Homepage, service pages, about pages, website copy that is clear, honest, and written for the people you actually want to reach rather than trying to impress everyone. Good website copy does not shout. It speaks directly to the right person and makes it easy for them to take the next step.

Webinar and Presentation Content

From scripting and structuring a webinar to developing the content framework for a presentation or workshop. I have delivered my own webinar series and helped clients map out and deliver theirs, so I understand both the content and the practical reality of getting it in front of an audience.

White Papers and Lead Generation Content

White papers tend to come up less frequently these days, but they remain a strong tool when the strategy calls for them, typically as a lead generation asset within a broader campaign. A well-produced white paper that genuinely addresses something your audience cares about can be a powerful way to collect leads and build an email list, particularly when paired with a paid advertising campaign or SEO-driven traffic.

Ad Copy and Email Content

Copy for Google and Meta ad campaigns, email newsletters, and campaign sequences. All of this sits within the broader service pages for those channels, but the copywriting element is something I handle directly rather than outsourcing.

Who This Is For

My content and copywriting work tends to suit businesses who:

  • Know their subject well but struggle to turn that knowledge into content that works
  • Have been producing content without a clear strategy behind it and are not seeing the results they expected
  • Need content that connects to a specific goal (SEO, lead generation, email, advertising) rather than content for its own sake
  • Want content that genuinely sounds like them rather than generic marketing copy
  • Do not have the time to write consistently and want someone to take it off their plate

I work with businesses across the UK, with a particular focus on Worcestershire, Kidderminster, Worcester, Bewdley, Stourport-on-Severn, and the Wyre Forest area.

Let’s Talk About Your Content

Whether you have a specific piece of content in mind or a broader challenge you’re trying to solve, I’m happy to have a conversation about what would actually be useful and how it fits into the bigger picture.
